Prepare for Your Future – the Corporation or the University. Strategy, Intellectual Property and Negotiation
<Abstract>
Scientists and engineers make direct contributions to the corporation through solutions to technical problems.
The value of the contributions can be enhanced if the technologists are able to effectively communicate with corporate management.
In these lectures we introduce the concepts of strategy, a product’s value-chain, the purpose and rules surrounding intellectual property (patents and trademarks), and an initial framework for conducting successful negotiations.
No prerequisites.
Place: A3-024, Katsura Campus, Kyoto University
- There will be successive Seminars in January, the details of which will be duly announced.

Prepare for Your Future – the Corporation or the University Measuring contributions in ¥
<Abstract>
Successful transition from Graduate Student Life into the future requires scientists and engineers to learn new skills related to measuring “value.”
Value is not only the scientific quality of your contribution, but also determined by your work’s contribution to the success of the organization.
A key skill is to learn how to “follow the ¥” from initial budget allocation, grant or capitalization to the return to the stakeholders.
By following the ¥, students will learn how the financial statements (profit & loss, balance sheet, cash flow) tell the story of financial health and prospects for the organization’s future.
These are the same skills that financial managers use to evaluate stocks for investment or you will use in your personal finances. No previous knowledge necessary.
